Board of Directors
Melanie Myers, Board Chair
First Concrete Ltd
Melanie feels privileged to be a part of operating a family business in the wonderful community of Southampton since 1999. As a resident of this community Melanie attempts, on a regular basis, to support local businesses, as a thriving downtown is a feature she values in her town. The location and nature of First Concrete Ltd’s livelihood separates them slightly from the business community. Serving on the Southampton BIA Board allows First Concrete Ltd to connect to current issues and contribute to improvement movements for the collective business community at large. The BIA is a vehicle that can promote a healthy and cooperative business community.
Mary Lou Hills, Board Vice Chair
Mary Lou Hills is proud to be an owner of Hills Insurance, 25 years on High Street, and a property owner in beautiful Southampton. Mary Lou promotes volunteerism and cherishes her community. She advocates for the welfare of the Southampton business community and the future prosperity and vibrancy of Southampton.
Bruce Martin, Board Treasurer
Martin’s Home Hardware
Bruce Martin is actively involved in the Southampton community on many levels. For years he has invested unlimited time as a volunteer on many town committees and interest groups that focused on Downtown Revitalization and Streetscape design forums addressing general downtown beautification. Bruce continues his interest in this area by being involved in the current active Streetscape committee of the BIA.
Susan Dollar, Board Secretary
With roots in this area going back several generations and having grown up here, Susan returned to open her law practice in Southampton in 2000. Susan chose to locate her practice in Southampton because it is a wonderful, vibrant community that has managed to retain its small town character and charm.
Sue Palethorpe, Board Director
Southampton Meat Market
Sue and Freddie opened the Southampton Meat Market 18 years ago, not wanting to wait until retirement to make Southampton their home. Knowing that Bruce County farmers raised some of the finest meats in the country they were proud to build their business on sourcing local quality meats and cheeses.
Don Hart, Board Director
Foodland Grocery Store
Don is a part of the Southampton business community with the long standing Foodland grocery store chain. Don and Foodland represent the “gateway” retailer sector of our merchant community; he brings to the Board knowledge about Southampton’s demographics and the tourist season high and lows that comprise our community.
Don Matheson, Councillor, Southampton Ward
Don Matheson-Southampton Ward lives in Saugeen Shores, specifically Southampton and has all his life. He teaches High School Physical Education and History at Chesley District Community School. He plays and coaches many sports, but is particularly fond of hockey, and spends a lot of time at the arena. Don brings to the SBIA Board a passion combined with a sense of history of Southampton that helps serve our Mission Statement. As an elected Council Member, Southampton Ward, Don keeps the Board and Membership abreast of important information at the Town level, and acts as an important bridge and advocate between the SBIA and the Town
Heather Hyde, BIA Coordinator
